The federal government has announced the release of an additional N4.04 billion to pay severance benefits to 600 former employees of Nigeria Airways Limited (NAL).
In a statement on Monday, Maryann Duke, senior special assistant on communications and press secretary to the Minister of Finance, said the payment covers beneficiaries in batches 010 and 011.
The latest release follows the N18 billion payment announced in September 2026 for 2,700 former workers across the first nine batches.
According to the statement, the additional release reflects the federal government’s continuing commitment to meeting verified obligations to eligible former employees.
“Payment details for Batches 010 and 011 are as follows: Number of beneficiaries: 600, total gross severance benefits: N4,251,043,000.19, deductions: N212,552,150.01, total net amount released for payment: N4,038,490,850.18,” the statement reads.
“The payment forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to address long-standing severance obligations to former Nigeria Airways employees.”
The ministry said the payments are being processed in batches based on the verification of beneficiaries and their records to ensure that approved entitlements reach the rightful recipients.
“The Federal Government recognises the prolonged wait experienced by former employees and their families and remains committed to resolving legitimate outstanding claims through an orderly and transparent process, while safeguarding public funds through appropriate verification,” the statement added.
The ministry said it would continue to support the implementation of approved government obligations in line with established procedures and applicable payment processes.
