When Giants Clash: Burna Boy, DJ Tunez and the Ego Behind Afrobeats’ Global Rise

The clash between Burna Boy and DJ Tunez is one of those moments that perfectly captures the thin line between ego, loyalty, and the fragile unity within Afrobeats.

It did not begin as a full blown war. Like most industry tensions, it started quietly, with subtle jabs, unspoken disagreements, and the kind of energy that lingers beneath the surface until someone decides to say just enough to spark a reaction.

At the centre of it all is influence.
DJ Tunez, widely known for his close affiliation with Wizkid and his role in shaping the sound behind the scenes, represents a camp that has long been seen as a powerhouse in the global Afrobeats movement.

On the other hand, Burna Boy, the self styled “African Giant,” has built a reputation on independence, global recognition, and an almost deliberate distance from industry alliances.
So when the tension surfaced, it was never going to stay small.

What followed was a mix of indirect shots and public reactions that hinted at deeper issues, respect, recognition, and perhaps the unspoken rivalry between camps that fans have always suspected but rarely see confirmed.
There is also the unignorable layer of pride.

Reports trending on social media claim that Burna Boy and members of his crew were involved in the alleged clash with the DJ on 6th of April 2026.

According to eyewitness accounts shared online, the incident reportedly occurred at a nightclub, where a disagreement is said to have escalated into a physical confrontation.

Sources further allege that multiple individuals were involved in the scuffle, with DJ Tunez reportedly on the receiving end of the attack. However, the claims remain unconfirmed as of press time.

Following a social Media post from Dj Tunes where he tweeted “Ogbafia number 1 don wake o” neither Wizkid nor Burnaboy have made any public statement about this encounter.
