Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu Takes Over as Substantive Foreign Minister as Tuggar Exits

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Yusuf Tuggar, who resigned to contest the 2027 elections.

The development was announced in a statement on Wednesday night by the Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu was until her elevation the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

President Tinubu also nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation.

Enikanolaiye, from Kogi State, currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

A career diplomat with over three decades in service, he has served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

According to the President, the appointments are part of efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy for greater efficiency, strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships.

Tinubu congratulated the appointees and tasked them with advancing Nigeria’s national interest, deepening economic diplomacy, promoting regional stability, and protecting Nigerians at home and abroad.
