Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has responded to the billion-naira defamation lawsuit reportedly filed against her by Judy Austin Yul-Edochie.
In a statement addressing the matter, Rita questioned the use of the name “Mrs Judith Yul Edochie”, saying she did not recognise anyone by that name within the Edochie family.
“I received a message from one Mrs Judith Yul Edochie, and up till now I am still confused about who the bearer of that name is. I don’t know anyone by that name,” she said.
The actress went on to state that the only person she recognises as “Mrs Yul Edochie” is May Yul-Edochie, the first wife of actor Yul Edochie.
“The only Mrs Yul Edochie that I know is Queen May,” Rita said.
She described Judy’s insistence on being addressed by the name as “a terrible slap on the face of the Edochies” and challenged her to provide evidence of the marriage.
“Since you are insistent on being addressed that way, I would like you to present your marriage certificate highlighting the exact confirmation of that weird name ‘Mrs Judith Yul Edochie.’ Only then will I give further response to this very message,” she added.
Rita’s response comes amid an escalating public dispute between her and Judy Austin, with the actress previously making several comments about Yul Edochie’s relationship and family affairs.
The reported lawsuit has added another legal dimension to the long-running controversy, with both parties now publicly airing their positions over the dispute.
