Nigerian content creator Cute Abiola has publicly apologised to former First Lady Patience Jonathan over the widespread mockery of her emotional reaction to the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls years ago.
In a heartfelt message shared online, Cute Abiola reflected on the viral video that showed Patience Jonathan in tears while speaking about the kidnapping of schoolchildren during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
At the time, the video became one of the most widely circulated clips on Nigerian social media, spawning countless memes and jokes. However, the comedian said recent events and the continued rise in kidnapping cases across the country have caused many Nigerians to reassess the moment from a different perspective.
“Mummy, we are sorry for the ridicule,” he wrote.
According to Cute Abiola, Patience Jonathan’s emotional response was not a sign of weakness but a reflection of genuine concern for the victims and their families.
He noted that while many people mocked her tears at the time, the worsening insecurity across the country has helped many Nigerians understand the pain and fear she was expressing.
“You spoke with emotion because you understood the gravity of what was happening to our nation. Today, as kidnapping and insecurity continue to affect innocent Nigerians, many now realize that your tears were not weakness. They were humanity,” he stated.
The content creator also expressed sympathy for families currently affected by insecurity, praying for comfort for victims and a return of peace across the country.
