The Federal Government has said that former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, played no role in the political crisis that led to the declaration of state of emergency in the state.
Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, made this assertion on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents in Abuja.
He explained that President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State was necessary to prevent the total collapse of governance in the oil-rich state.
Fagbemi assured that Rivers State’s allocation from the Federation Account would be made available to Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas (retd.), who was appointed as the state’s Sole Administrator by President Tinubu.
“If the administrator requests it, the allocation will be released to him,” Fagbemi stated. “To me, it is in order for the release of that fund because the extraordinary situation has taken the state out of the normal governance process.”
