The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled a 155-member National Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, naming former Bayelsa State Governor and its National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, as chairman of the body that will spearhead its nationwide campaign.
The party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will serve as co-chairman, while NDC National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, was named vice chairman.
Vice-presidential candidate and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will serve as co-vice chairman.
The composition of the council marks a major step in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 elections as political parties move to activate their national campaign structures.
Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim was appointed Director-General of the presidential campaign, while NDC National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, will serve as secretary of the council.
The broader campaign structure also includes a 40-member National Campaign Advisory Council, chaired by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, as well as campaign coordinators covering the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Other prominent figures in the campaign structure include former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege; Senator Victor Umeh; Buba Galadima; Professor Pat Utomi; former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu; Professor Yakubu Ochefu; Professor Mahmud Gambo Jahun; Moshood Salvador, and former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa.
Retired Major General John Enenche was named Director of Security and Intelligence, while NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, will head Communication and Media. Ikeddi Isiguzo was appointed Deputy Director of Communication and Media, with Constance Ikokwu serving as campaign spokesperson.
Announcing the council, the NDC said the body would provide strategic leadership, coordinate campaign activities across the federation, and drive mobilisation behind the party’s agenda ahead of the elections.
The party said the Dickson-led council had been charged with delivering a “people-centred and issue-based campaign” and coordinating its political machinery across the country.
The NDC called on its members and supporters to close ranks as the campaign season gathers momentum, saying unity would be central to its preparations for the polls.
“We call on all party members, supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians to remain united and focused as we work together to rescue our country,” the party said.
The NDC is expected to formally inaugurate the campaign council in Abuja on Monday as part of a series of party activities that also include its third National Executive Committee meeting, the unveiling of its new national secretariat in Jabi, and the presentation of certificates of return to candidates.
With the constitution of the 155-member council, the party has now established the central command structure expected to coordinate the Obi-Kwankwaso presidential campaign and its nationwide mobilisation for the 2027 elections.
