The police yesterday charged two men before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged conspiracy and theft of an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle worth N1. 2 million.
The defendants are: Ibrahim Alabi, 47; and Nureni Fatai, 44.
The duo, whose addresses were not stated, are standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
They each, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp Aina Ayodeji, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Oct. 10 at about 2:30 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Ayodeji alleged that the defendants conspired to steal the motorcycle belonging to one Mr Eyitayo Samuel.
He also alleged that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by constituting nuisance in a public place.
The offences contravene the provisions of Section 302(1)(a) and 421 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Defence counsel, Mrs Blessing Falaye, urged the court to grant the defendants bail with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olatomiwa Daramola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Nov 11 for hearing.
