Nigerian comedian and actor Okey Bakassi has dismissed reports claiming that his marriage has collapsed, describing the publication as fake news aimed at misrepresenting his family life.
The entertainer addressed the rumours in a video shared on his Instagram page, expressing disappointment that some people circulated the report without contacting him or his family to verify the claims.
According to Okey Bakassi, an article featuring his photograph and that of his wife falsely alleged that they had gone their separate ways, prompting calls from friends, family members and fans concerned about the state of their marriage.
“My wife and I, we are still together. God forbid anything will ever happen to us,” he said.
The actor also revealed that he and his wife recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Canada, dismissing the claims about their separation.
He further challenged details contained in the report, stating that his wife does not live in the United States and is not a nurse, contrary to what the article allegedly claimed.
Okey Bakassi criticised those who shared the publication without first confirming its authenticity, arguing that the incident showed the difference between people who genuinely care about him and those who readily spread unverified information.
“Some of you saw the fake news and went ahead to spread it instead of reaching out to me to confirm if it’s true,” he said.
The comedian’s reaction highlights the potential harm of spreading unverified claims about public figures, particularly when such reports involve their marriages and families.
