Tinubu to Security Forces: Mount Relentless Pressure on Bandits, Deny Criminals Safe Haven in Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies to sustain relentless pressure on bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements and deny them safe haven anywhere in the country.

The President renewed the directive on Monday following the successful rescue of 15 National Youth Service Corps members and six other Nigerians abducted last week in Kogi State.

Tinubu, in a statement he personally signed, said security forces must not relent after rescuing the victims, directing them to pursue the fleeing kidnappers and ensure that those responsible for the crime and their accomplices are brought to justice.

“While the abductees have been safely rescued, our gallant security forces are still on the trail of the routed kidnappers, in line with my directive to sustain the pressure on all criminal elements,” the President said.

“Those responsible will face the full weight of the law, and our security agencies will pursue everyone who aided this crime.”

The President said his administration remained determined to eliminate criminal sanctuaries and make it possible for Nigerians to travel freely across the country without fear.

Tinubu expressed delight over the rescue of all 21 abductees from the kidnappers’ hideout in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were freed on Monday afternoon in a coordinated Search and Rescue operation involving personnel of the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and local vigilantes.

According to the President, the rescued corps members and other victims are receiving medical attention before being reunited with their families.

Tinubu commended the combined security team for its courage and coordination, describing the operation as another demonstration of what could be achieved through effective collaboration among the country’s security and intelligence agencies.

He also thanked the families and loved ones of the abductees for their understanding throughout the ordeal.

Sharing in their relief and joy, the President gave a fresh assurance to parents of NYSC members that his administration would continue to prioritise the safety of young Nigerians serving their country.

“As I share in the relief and joy of the parents and loved ones of the rescued individuals, I want to once again assure parents and loved ones of our dedicated corps members that my administration remains committed to ensuring the safety of their lives and property, as well as those of other Nigerians,” Tinubu said.

The President praised the men and women of Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies for their continuing efforts to protect lives and confront criminal groups.
