President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election in the Osun State governorship election, saying the victory is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.
Tinubu, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his electoral victory.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” the President said.
Tinubu urged the governor to use his second term to unite the people of the state, irrespective of their political affiliations or choices during the election.
“I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years. Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” he said.
The President also commended the other contestants for what he described as the courage and discipline they displayed throughout the electoral process.
He said their participation had contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture, adding that the outcome reflected the will of the people of Osun State.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” Tinubu said.
The President further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
Adeleke of Accord Party was declared winner of the election after securing the highest number of votes across the state, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress.
Tinubu’s congratulatory message came shortly after the declaration of the result, with the President stressing the need for the electoral outcome to be respected and for the state to move forward in unity and pursuit of development.
