Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed directly to United States President Donald Trump over growing concerns surrounding the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
In a video shared on social media, the singer called on Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the election, warning of possible tension, violence and disruption of the democratic process.
“President Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, as we approach the election. There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process,” Davido said.
He stressed that residents of the state should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and without fear.
“Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he added.
Davido also urged the United States and other members of the international community to encourage relevant Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure that votes cast during the election are respected.
“We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” the singer said.
The appeal comes as political activities intensify ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election, with Davido having openly expressed support for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election.
His latest comments have generated reactions online, with Nigerians debating the singer’s decision to take concerns over the state election to an international audience.
