Popular content creator and comedian Zicsaloma has urged young Nigerians to prioritise learning valuable skills instead of depending on handouts, warning that begging is not a sustainable path to success.

Speaking in a video shared on social media, Zicsaloma said many young people remain unemployed because they have failed to acquire practical skills that can earn them a living.

“If you don’t have a skill, your chance is almost zero. I’m saying this because I know a lot of redundant young people. You can’t drive, cook, you’re not computer literate. You don’t know anything.”

The content creator also cautioned against relying on physical appearance to attract financial support, stressing that beauty is temporary.

“Begging people for money is not sustainable, and using your looks to beg people is not sustainable. Even beauty vanishes.”

Sharing a personal experience, Zicsaloma revealed that he once responded to a follower who had repeatedly asked him for money, only to discover the person had no employable skill.

“I asked, ‘What can you do?’ The person said nothing. ‘What can you do?’ The person couldn’t think of anything.”

According to him, constantly asking people for financial assistance without developing a skill only makes one a burden to others.

“Nobody will keep giving you money forever. You will always be a burden to people. People will always run away from you.”

Instead, he encouraged young people to seek out mentors, apprenticeships and opportunities to learn practical trades.

“Instead of disturbing people for money, disturb people you can learn skills from. Disturb people that can plug you in. Just start from somewhere.”

Zicsaloma recommended vocational skills such as hairdressing, hair installation and barbing, urging young people to pursue excellence rather than mediocrity.

“Don’t learn as a mediocre. Learn it properly. If you are at home and you are redundant, you do not stand a chance to make it in life.”
