Nigerian singer Brymo has opened up about his past relationships, revealing that he was involved with several older married women during the early years of his music career.
Speaking on the NOTJUSTOK podcast, the singer said the relationships happened at a time when he was enjoying the success of one of his breakout songs and receiving significant attention.
“I met quite a number of older women who were truly married. They would tell me they were separated from their husbands.”
Brymo recounted one particular experience that, according to him, left a lasting impression. He said one of the women invited him to perform at her sister’s wedding before asking him to entertain guests at her family home later that evening.
The singer explained that he initially accepted the invitation until she informed him that her husband would also be present.
“She said, ‘Our baba will be there.’ I thought she meant her father, but she said, ‘No, my husband.’”
According to Brymo, the revelation immediately made him uncomfortable, as he feared the situation could put him at risk.
“As far as I’m concerned, me going there to perform that night is me opening myself up for some crazy ritual. I just couldn’t take it, so I had to get out.”
Reflecting on the incident, Brymo said it reminded him of an awkward encounter he had with fellow music star 2Baba in 2019.
“As at 2019, I remember that moment in Naomi’s office in Lekki Phase 1 when 2Face looked me square in the eye and asked Annie, ‘You don slept with Brymo?’ I will never forget it.”
Brymo said the unexpected question has stayed with him over the years, describing it as a moment he has never been able to erase from his memory.
