Nigeria’s Brown, Ebinga Win bronze at Africa Aquatics Championships

Two Nigerians, India Brown and Collins Ebinga have made it to the podium, clinching bronze medals in various events at the ongoing 17th Africa Aquatics Championships in Algeria.
Brown achieved the feat in the women 200m butterfly event with a time of 2:29:02 secs while Ebinga also finished third place in the men’s 100m freestyle, setting a new personal best of 50.86 secs.
Both swimmers are also set to compete later yesterday evening in finals of the men and women 100m butterfly event.
Their compatriots Olamma Hibbert and Annette Alfred-Olajide are expected to compete in both the women 50m and 100m backstroke events on Friday.
Another swimmer Michelle Ibidapo will also feature in the women 50m backstroke today.
Meanwhile, the head of the delegation and Secretary of the Federation, Taiwo Oriss has commended the resilience and competitive spirt of the swimmers while optimistic of more medals in future.
“These performances demonstrate clear progress, with podium finishes, personal bests, and multiple final appearances signaling a positive trajectory for Nigerian aquatics.
“We remain focused and motivated as the championships continue, with several events still ahead and strong medal prospects in sight.
“We will always remain committed to supporting our athletes in their pursuit of excellence and elevating Nigeria’s profile in aquatic sports across Africa,’’ Oriss added.
Meanwhile a 10-member delegation, consisting of eight swimmers and two officials are representing the country at the continental event which started on Tuesday and will end on Sunday.
