The story of a once-beloved screen character and his present reality has taken yet another turn, this time with a response from the man behind the production.

Veteran filmmaker Wale Adenuga has addressed the growing public concern surrounding Abiodun Ayoyinka, fondly remembered as Papa Ajasco from the classic series Papa Ajasco & Company.

Ayoyinka had earlier drawn sympathy after opening up about his current struggles with health and living conditions. The revelation quickly sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians questioning how a familiar face from their childhood could be facing such hardship without visible support from the production that once made him a household name.

Wale Adenuga, however, offered a different perspective. According to him, the actor was never abandoned. He explained that Ayoyinka stopped working with the production company years ago due to personal and professional challenges, including issues of reliability and breach of agreement. He also noted that efforts had been made in the past to support him, although the working relationship eventually came to an end.

The filmmaker went further to clarify what many may not want to hear. Actors, he explained, are engaged on a contractual basis, not as permanent staff with lifelong benefits. The statement, while practical, landed with the kind of honesty that rarely comforts an emotional audience.

The situation, as it stands, now sits at the intersection of sympathy and reality. Nostalgia remembers the laughter. Reality, it seems, comes with fine print.
