Nigerian Army Confirms Major Blow to Lakurawa Terrorists After US Strike Flattens Camps, Degrades Capacity

The Nigerian Army has confirmed a major operational breakthrough following a United States–led airstrike that smashed Lakurawa terrorist hideouts in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, dealing a heavy blow to the group’s fighting capacity.
A credible source at Army Headquarters disclosed on Monday that the strike was carried out as part of ongoing military operations within the 8 Division/Sector 2 Area of Responsibility under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
According to the source, troops of the Combat Intelligence Battalion VII, acting on credible intelligence regarding terrorist movements along the Kaurau axis, coordinated with United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) forces to strike identified terrorist camps in the Bauni Forest near Waria and Alkassim villages on December 25.
The source said follow-up patrols conducted the following day confirmed widespread destruction of terrorist positions, with the damage significantly degrading the operational capability of the Lakurawa group.
“In a related development, troops of 1 Brigade, Combat Team 12, deployed at Forward Operating Base Jabo in Kebbi State, recovered debris believed to be parts of unmanned aerial devices and missile components in Kajiji town, Tambuwal Local Government Area,” the source said.
Preliminary technical assessments by the Nigerian Army’s Electrical and Mechanical Engineers team identified some of the recovered items as fuel boosters from Tomahawk missiles. Each booster reportedly weighs about 300 kilograms and is capable of penetrating soft ground to a depth of approximately two metres.
The Army assured members of the public that investigations were ongoing to safely locate and recover any remaining missile components. It urged residents in affected communities to report any suspicious objects to the nearest security agencies to prevent accidental harm.
Reaffirming its resolve, the Nigerian Army said it would continue to sustain pressure on terrorist groups while remaining committed to the protection of lives and property across northern Nigeria.
