The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun State has warned motorists against the act of driving against traffic, citing the alarming increase in fatalities linked to the practice.
TRACE South-West Area Commander, Mr Adekunle Ajibade, made the warning during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Ota.
He described one-way driving as a deadly act, saying, “Driving against traffic kills faster than HIV.”
Ajibade noted that the warning followed a series of fatal accidents in Ota and surrounding areas caused by drivers flouting traffic rules.
He appealed to the public to stop pleading on behalf of offenders caught driving against traffic, stressing that enforcement would be intensified across the state.
He also revealed that the Corps Commander of TRACE, Dr Seni Ogunyemi, had directed all divisional offices to ramp up enforcement campaigns and ensure strict penalties for defaulters.
Ajibade further advised motorists to avoid wrongful overtaking and comply with speed limits to reduce the risk of crashes.
