The Federal Ministry of Defence has dismissed as “malicious” and “entirely fabricated” reports circulating on social media claiming that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), is planning to resign from office.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the ministry said the reports were the handiwork of mischief makers bent on spreading falsehood.

It stated that there was no truth whatsoever in the claims, stressing that the Defence Minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities and has no intention of stepping down.

“The attention of the Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence has been drawn to a malicious and entirely fabricated rumour circulating across various online and social media platforms alleging that the Honourable Minister has expressed an intention to step down from his position,” the statement said.

“We wish to state unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms that these rumours are absolute falsehoods borne out of complete mischief.”

The ministry said General Musa remains focused on executing President Bola Tinubu’s security agenda and is fully dedicated to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.

According to the statement, the minister continues to discharge his duties with unwavering commitment, adding that the impact of ongoing defence and security initiatives is already becoming evident.

The ministry urged Nigerians to ignore the resignation rumours and warned against the spread of unverified information capable of misleading the public.

It also advised media organisations and social media users to verify information with the Office of the Minister before publishing or sharing reports concerning the nation’s defence leadership.
