Media personality Tomike has sparked conversations online after questioning the practice of forcing children to use their right hands instead of allowing them to develop their natural hand preference.

Sharing her experience with her son’s lesson teacher, Tomike said she overheard the teacher instructing the child to hold his pencil with his right hand and stop using his left.

She recalled asking the teacher to allow her son to use either hand, provided he could write properly and complete his work.

“I don’t understand the logic behind asking children to use their right hands and not use their left hands,” she said, questioning why left handedness is often discouraged from childhood.

Tomike wondered whether the practice was rooted in cultural beliefs or an established rule, adding that she had never understood why children were corrected simply for using their left hands.

She also questioned the idea that children must stick to one hand when they are capable of using both, saying she would be comfortable with her son choosing either hand as he grows.

“If tomorrow he wakes up and says his right hand, please, let him use the right hand. As long as he’s writing what he’s supposed to be writing, that’s all that matters,” she said.

The media personality further revealed that she knew someone who was beaten as a child in an attempt to stop them from being left-handed.

Her comments have drawn attention to the experiences of left-handed children who face pressure to conform to right-handed practices, raising questions about childhood development, cultural expectations and the importance of allowing children to develop naturally.
