The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made pistol, a live cartridge and a motorcycle following a robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday, October 8, 2026, after the Divisional Police Officer of Oluyole Division received a distress call reporting an armed robbery in the area, the command said in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, a police patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene, where officers confronted the suspects and arrested three of them.
The suspects were identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.
The statement said the incident occurred around 9.15pm when the DPO received information that armed men were attacking members of the public and dispossessing them of their belongings.
It added that the police team responded promptly to the report, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of items allegedly connected with the robbery.
The command said the recovered items included a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol and a live cartridge.
It added that the items had been secured as exhibits for further investigation.
During preliminary investigations, the suspects reportedly confessed to robbing a tricycle driver and two passengers, as well as injuring other persons during their alleged operations.
The statement added that the suspects remained in police custody, while the case had been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit, Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and protecting lives and property.
According to the statement, the commissioner said the command would sustain its efforts through prompt responses to distress calls, intelligence-led policing and operations targeting criminal elements.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the authorities.
“Timely and credible information from residents remains essential to strengthening security and maintaining public safety across Oyo State,” the statement added.
