Sharon Ademefun, sister of Afrobeats star Davido, has sparked conversations about luxury fashion after revealing that she no longer intends to buy clothes directly from Nigerian designers.

Speaking on the Fashion Round Table podcast, Sharon said she does not believe in spending excessively on clothes, despite her connection to one of Nigeria’s biggest music stars and a wealthy family.

The mother of one explained that while she appreciates quality and understands that some items are worth their prices, she is no longer willing to spend heavily on certain fashion purchases.

Using wedding outfits as an example, Sharon questioned the growing cost of designer dresses, recalling that her own wedding dress cost $2,000.

“I don’t really believe in buying expensive clothes. Okay, me personally. I believe that there are some things that are worth it. So, like, now when I’m hearing that a wedding guest dress is $10,000, I remember for my wedding, my husband paid $2,000 for my dress,” she said.

She added that she also paid for the dresses worn by her 13 bridesmaids, alongside outfits for four or five other people, yet her total spending remained below $10,000.

According to Sharon, the experience reinforced her belief that expensive clothing does not always justify the amount spent on it.

She further disclosed that she had decided to stop working directly with Nigerian fashion designers, a position she acknowledged might attract criticism.

“I just feel like there are certain things that I’m just not willing to pay for anymore. So I don’t believe in overly expensive clothes. I am turning 40 next year, and I have made the decision, unfortunately, that I would not be participating with any Nigerian designer directly,” she said.

Sharon’s comments have opened up conversations about the pricing of Nigerian designer fashion, with questions about affordability, craftsmanship and the value customers receive for their money.
