APC governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, has revealed that he had planned to appoint the late veteran actor and cultural icon, Ogogo, as his Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism with full cabinet rank if he had eventually become governor of the state.
Adeola described Ogogo as more than an icon associated with Ilaro, saying the actor played a significant role in promoting the image of Ogun State and Nigeria through his craft.
According to the politician, Ogogo’s influence and contribution to the creative industry made him deserving of a prominent role in government, particularly in the promotion of culture and tourism.
Adeola expressed sadness over the actor’s death, describing his passing as a painful loss to Yewaland, Ogun State and Nigeria.
“Death was cruel for taking Ogogo away from Yewaland, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole,” Adeola said.
He also disclosed that efforts had been made to secure advanced medical treatment for the actor in India before his condition deteriorated.
Adeola said Ogogo was scheduled to travel to India for treatment and that his visa application had already been processed, alongside other arrangements required for the trip.
However, he said the actor’s health took a turn for the worse before the visa could be issued, leaving him too weak to travel.
“He was scheduled to be taken to India for advanced medical treatment. We had already processed the visa applications and made all necessary travel arrangements to fly him out of the country. However, before the visa could be issued, he became extremely weak and could no longer make the trip,” he said.
Adeola’s revelation has further highlighted the late actor’s standing within Ogun State’s cultural community and the wider Nigerian entertainment industry.
Ogogo was widely recognised for his contributions to Yoruba cinema and the promotion of indigenous culture through his work in the creative industry.
