Nathaniel Idowu U-16 Football League Kicks Off With 10 Teams

Not less than 10 teams would begin their campaign in the 2026 Nathaniel Idowu U-16 Football League come Saturday, Sept. 5.
Five matches will be played across two venues in Week 1 fixtures in Lagos.
The was contained in a statement by Yemi Idowu, Founder, Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, on Wednesday in Lagos.
According to the statement, the matches will hold at the New Maracana Sports Complex in Tolu and the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch in Oregie in Ajegunle.
It noted that the League Management Committee (LMC) had released the fixtures for the nine-week competition, which would end on Oct. 31.
According to the statement, the competition is organised by the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, under Chief Yemi Idowu, in partnership with Peakline Sports World.
It stated that the organisers had explained that the league would provide young players with opportunities to develop and gain state, national and international recognition.
The statement said three matches would be played in Tolu, while two others would take place at the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch in Oregie.
It noted that at 8 00 a.m., Fortune FA would face St. Petersburg FA in the opening fixture at the New Maracana Sports Complex.
According to the statement, Fortune FA, winners of the U-14 league, will be hoping to continue their strong form against St. Petersburg FA, who are making their debut.
It stated that Seraphic FA, the team of Zion Church, would then take on Bright Star FA.
The statement said both teams aimed at a positive start, as their U-16 campaign got underway.
It noted that the Moore Wins Foundation FA would later face SC Heritage in another Match Week 1 fixture.
Moore Wins, finished sixth in the U-14 edition, while SC Heritage would be making its debut in the competition.
It stated that the afternoon fixtures would be played at the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch in Oregie.
The statement said at 1 00 p.m., Young Eleven FA would engage Ajegunle United SC in a repeat of their U-14 Super 4 encounter.
It noted that Ajegunle United defeated Young Eleven in the U-14 Super 4 adding that Young Eleven would be hoping to get a revenge.
The statement added that at 2:30 p.m., Atico Football Academy would also make its league debut against Divinely Blessed FA.
Divinely Blessed finished eighth in the previous edition and would be hoping for an improved performance.
The statement noted that organisers had said the opening fixtures would provide an early test for the teams, as they adjusted from the U-14 to U-16 football.
It added that the league would also help identify young players capable of progressing to state, national and international football.
The Nathaniel Idowu U-16 Football League is expected to give the participating teams opportunities to compete, develop players and showcase their talents.
