The Nasarawa State President of Mdzough U Tiv, Philip Nongu, yesterday said no fewer than 7000 Tiv people in Nasarawa State that border Benue State were forced to migrate to urban centres as herdsmen continue the killing spree and burning of houses and a church in the state.
Nongu, who alleged that suspected herdsmen were seen moving with sophisticated weapons and chasing Tiv people out of there ancestral homes and farm lands, advised the people to relocate.
He further informed that over 7000 people were displaced in villages like Gbatar, Tsekile Dooga and Gbogyo, in Doka wards of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, while in Kwara district of Keana LG area, Antsa, Dooshima, Ishuwa Ihwa Mnza amongst others migrated to safer areas for their lives.
Nongu therefore called on the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule to come to the aid of his people by deploying security agents to the affected areas, and also institute a committee to look into the root cause of the matter and provide a permanent solution to it.
“In Kadarko, most IDPs are staying with there relatives, while others are in Kadarko North Primary School without security as some moved to Kuduku, Agyaragu, other places in the state,” he noted.
