Following incessant threat to lives and property by unknown gunmen in Camp 2, Mfamosing, and adjoining communities, the Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. (Ophot) Felix Akposi, in collaboration with the State Security Adviser to the Governor, Maj. Gen. Okoi Obono (rtd), and the Nigerian Police Force, have successfully restored peace and normalcy in the affected areas.

The intervention became necessary after clashes between youths stealing alm fruits and security personnel guarding the Wilmar Oil Palm Estates led to wounding of one of the intruders.

In retaliation, elements from Camp 2 launched an attack on Mfamosing community, resulting in the death of a former security staff of Wilmar and the displacement of residents.

But in swift response, the three tactical police units were deployed under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer of Akamkpa to quell the violence, restore order, and secure the affected communities. The joint security team also interfaced with the management of Wilmar to enhance collaboration and strengthen future security arrangements.

Normalcy has now returned to the area, and the bodies of the two deceased individuals have been deposited in the mortuary pending further investigation.

The Akamkpa Local Government Council remains committed to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that the rule of law prevails across all communities within the local government area.

However, in his tripartite message, the Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council reassured the people of Akamkpa, investors and residents of the administration’s commitment to security, safety and ease of doing business. “We want to reassure all residents and investors that Akamkpa remains a peaceful and resilient local government area. Our administration is fully committed to supporting security agencies to safeguard every community. Together, we will continue to foster an environment where peace, enterprise, and lawful activities thrive.”

He further warns all dissident groups or individual enterprising in mischief that Akamkpa will not be a safe haven for them. “Let it be known that Akamkpa Local Government Council will not tolerate acts of lawlessness or any attempt to undermine the peace of our communities. We will deploy all lawful measures, in collaboration with security agencies, to bring perpetrators to justice and ensure that order is maintained at all times.”

In his Call-to-Action, Akposi charges that, “The task of maintaining peace is a collective responsibility. I call on all community leaders, youths, and residents of Akamkpa to join hands with government and security agencies in protecting our communities. Together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Akamkpa for all.
