AFN Invites 29 Athletes to Abuja Camp for 2026 Commonwealth Games

Ahead of the forthcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland next month, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), has called up 29 athletes to the national camp in Abuja for focused preparations.
The invited athletes, comprising 14 men and 15 women, was selected based on performances at the just-ended national trials held at Yabatech Sports Complex in Lagos, plus current records of other athletes who missed the Lagos trials due to visa problems.
AFN Secretary General, Mr. Israel Inwang told the invited athletes to report at the NSC National CWG camp in Abuja, starting yesterday Thursday, 25th June, 2026.
The Nigerian athletics team will compete in 18 track and field events at the Games. Among the events are the three relays: Men’s 4 × 100m, Women’s 4 × 100m, and Mixed 4 × 400m.
The invited male athletes, who will compete in the Men’s 100m, 200m, 4 × 100m relay are
Ajayi Kayinsola,
Akintola Alaba,
Ashe Favour,
Ezeakor Chidera,
Fakorede Adekalu,
Okon Israel, and
Onwuzuruike Udodi.
In the Quarter Mile – 400m and Mixed 4 × 400m Relay are
Ogazi Samuel,
udo Edidiong,
Tyler Johnson,
nathaniel Ezekiel, who will also slug it out in the 400m Hurdles.
In the field events, the AFN invited
Enekwechi Chukwuebuka (Shot Put),
Nnamdi Chinecherem (Javelin), and
Schlueter Jami (Decathlon).
In sprints, the female athletes will compete in the 100m, 200m, 4 × 100m relay. They are
Ogundiran Blessing,
Chukwuma Rosemary,
Godbless Tima,
ezechukwu Miracle,
Olajide Olayinka,
Chukwuka Obi, and Amusan Tobi, who will also contest in the 100m hurdles.
Four women – Patience Okon-George,
Onojuvwevwo Ella,
Onyah Favour and
Joseph Esther will slug it out in the Quarter Mile – 400m, and Mixed 4 × 400m Relay.
In the Field Events for women, AFN picked
Adeshina Temitope – High Jump,
Brume Ese – Long Jump,
Oji Jessica – Shot Put, and Olatoye Oyesade – Hammer Throw.
