The Lagos State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a disturbing security breach involving the delivery of live AK-47 ammunition to the Managing Director of FirstBank Nigeria, Mr. Oluwasegun Alebiosu.

The startling incident, which has raised fresh concerns about the safety of top corporate executives and high-profile Nigerians, came to light after a suspicious parcel containing live rounds of ammunition was delivered to the bank chief’s residence in Lagos by an unidentified dispatch rider.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, confirmed that detectives had commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the delivery and identify those behind it.

According to the police chief, the matter was formally reported on May 7, 2026, after Alebiosu discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition concealed inside a parcel that had been received on his behalf.

The 7.62mm calibre ammunition is commonly associated with military-grade rifles, including the AK-47, making the incident particularly alarming for security agencies.

“The Managing Director reported the matter to the police after discovering two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition in a parcel collected on his behalf. The case is still under investigation, and we are treating it with the seriousness it deserves,” the commissioner said.

Investigations revealed that the package was first received by the bank executive’s security guard before being handed over to him. Upon opening the parcel, the discovery of the ammunition immediately triggered concerns over a possible threat or act of intimidation.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the parcel was delivered to Alebiosu’s residence in the upscale Ikoyi area of Lagos by a dispatch rider whose identity remains unknown.

Further heightening suspicions, the package was reportedly marked “confidential” and carried only the recipient’s name and address, with no sender’s name, contact details, or any information that could help trace its origin.

Police authorities said no arrests have been made so far, but investigators are pursuing multiple leads to determine who sent the parcel and the motive behind the delivery.

Commissioner Fatai disclosed that detectives were examining information supplied by the complainant and other relevant persons who may possess knowledge of the incident.

He added that forensic analysis and intelligence-driven investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the ammunition, trace the dispatch route, and identify anyone connected to the delivery.

The police boss assured Lagos residents that the command would continue to update the public as investigations progress.

The incident has sparked widespread concern within security circles, particularly given the increasing vulnerability of business leaders, public officials, and other prominent Nigerians to threats, intimidation, and targeted criminal activities. Investigators are expected to determine whether the parcel was intended as a warning, a prank, or part of a more sinister plot.
