Christian filmmaker and actor Mike Bamiloye has defended the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, following criticism from some Nigerians who accused the cleric of not speaking strongly enough on national issues.

The controversy comes after RCCG recently addressed what it described as false narratives surrounding Pastor Adeboye’s position on insecurity and governance in Nigeria.

Reacting through a post on his official Instagram page, Bamiloye shared a video of the respected cleric addressing members of his congregation and insisted that Adeboye had not remained silent on the challenges facing the country.

According to the filmmaker, the pastor has consistently spoken against evil and insecurity while fulfilling what he believes is the biblical responsibility of the Church.

“He spoke against the evils,” Bamiloye wrote.

The filmmaker also questioned expectations that the 84 year old cleric should personally lead public protests against the government, arguing that such demands ignore both Adeboye’s age and the nature of his spiritual calling.

“And for all those who are expecting an 84 year old man, servant of God, to lead a protest against a government, this does not make sense by the virtue of his age and by the mandate of his calling,” he stated.

Addressing claims that Adeboye previously led protests against former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Bamiloye explained that the action was part of a broader directive issued by Christian bodies at the time.

According to him, the protest was organised under the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), with churches across the country participating in response to growing insecurity.

He noted that Adeboye merely complied with the collective decision and led members of his denomination as instructed.

Bamiloye further maintained that the primary role of the Church is to pray for the nation, its leaders and divine intervention in governance rather than engage directly in political activism.

“Our major responsibility as the Church of God is to continually pray for the peace of our nation and the intervention of God in the government,” he added.
