The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has praised Ibom Angels Football Club for securing qualification to the quarter-finals of the 2026 President Federation Cup.
Ibom Angels booked their place in the last eight after defeating Bayelsa Queens 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Awka City Stadium, Anambra State, on Tuesday.
Reacting to the victory, Elder Paul Bassey congratulated the team and encouraged them to remain focused and continue working hard. He also assured them of the Ministry’s continued support as they pursue the ultimate prize.
“Permit me, on behalf of the Ministry of Sports, to sincerely congratulate the Chairman, and management, especially the players of Ibom Angels Football Club on their qualification for the quarter-finals of this year’s President Federation Cup. Their achievement is a clear demonstration of what courage, determination, and hard work can accomplish.
“While we celebrate the team’s qualification for the last eight, I want to encourage the management, staff, players, and coaching crew not to rest on their oars but to intensify preparations for the challenges ahead while keeping their eyes firmly on the ultimate prize at the end of the campaign.
“As a ministry, it is our responsibility, as captured in the ARISE Agenda of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, to provide our athletes and sports teams with the necessary support and encouragement required to perform optimally and represent the state with distinction in all competitions.
“Ibom Angels have reached the FA Cup final twice without lifting the trophy, and we are hopeful that this year presents another opportunity to go one step further and bring the title home.
“I also want to use this opportunity to call on all sports stakeholders, fans, and supporters to rally behind Ibom Angels and give them the moral and spiritual support they need to stay motivated and inspired to bring glory and honour to our dear state.”
Ibom Angels will next face Heartland Queens in the quarter-finals, with the venue and date yet to be announced.
