The search for truth in the ongoing saga surrounding late singer Mohbad has hit yet another unexpected wall, and this time, the obstacle is not human emotion but science itself.
In what many hoped would bring clarity to the lingering paternity questions, two court-approved laboratories have declined to carry out DNA testing using the late singer’s remains. The reason is as clinical as it is frustrating. The body had been embalmed.
For the uninitiated, embalming, while preserving appearance, does not exactly preserve the kind of biological material laboratories are eager to work with. In simple terms, what keeps the body looking presentable may also be what keeps the truth out of reach.
The development has left many Nigerians both confused and concerned as the selected labs included DNA Diagnostics Centre (proposed by the applicant), Alpha Bio Labs (submitted by Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi Aloba), and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited (chosen by the court), hit a roadblock.
Questions continue to hang in the air. If the test cannot proceed this way, what happens next? If answers remain delayed, how long before public interest turns into fatigue?
For now, the story of Mohbad, remains after his passing in September 2023, is one where closure is constantly promised but never quite delivered. Truth, it seems, is taking its time.
