While many Nigerian celebrities remain firmly rooted in their political loyalties, Nollywood actor Aremu Afolayan appears to have taken a rather different route.
Earlier in the week, the 45-year-old actor, once known for his strong criticism of the current administration, surprised many when he publicly declared a change of heart. The announcement came during the EKO 57 launch in Lagos, an event that gathered several stakeholders within the Yoruba Nollywood space.
As expected, the reaction was swift and unforgiving. Fans and followers, armed with their ever-ready keyboards, expressed deep disappointment. For many, the shift felt less like growth and more like a betrayal.
The pressure, it seems, did not go unnoticed, as Aremu, in a nine-minute video released yesterday, 19th March 2026, offered what he described as a heartfelt apology to Nigerians. He acknowledged the backlash and went a step further by promising to stay away from anything related to Nigerian politics and this government moving forward.
Wasn’t that a quick exit?
