President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr Dele Alake, on his re-election as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategic Group (AMSG), a continental forum of ministers overseeing mining and solid minerals.
Alake was re-elected at the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the AMSG, held on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He was first elected to the position in 2024 during the same international conference.
The Africa Minerals Strategic Group is focused on ensuring that African countries maximise benefits from the continent’s vast mineral resources, particularly in the context of the global energy transition and the growing demand for critical minerals.
In a statement, President Tinubu described Alake’s re-election as a vote of confidence in his leadership, commitment and strategic advocacy for Africa’s minerals sector. He noted that under Alake’s chairmanship, the AMSG has provided a strong and unified platform for African countries to deepen collaboration, protect their mineral resources and enhance the continent’s standing in the global minerals value chain.
The President also commended Alake for aligning the objectives of the AMSG with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, especially efforts aimed at unlocking the country’s solid minerals potential, attracting sustainable investment, creating jobs and translating mineral wealth into socio-economic benefits for Africans.
According to Tinubu, Alake has sustained the trust of his ministerial colleagues across Africa and has pursued a reform agenda in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector that is positioning it as a significant contributor to the national economy.
The President assured the minister of the Federal Government’s continued support as he leads the AMSG to strengthen cooperation among African nations, reinforce institutional frameworks and promote transparency, sustainability and inclusiveness in the minerals sector.
