Pastor Bolaji Idowu has advised singles against remaining in relationships where their partners refuse to make clear commitments, insisting that genuine love should be accompanied by a willingness to commit.
Speaking about dating and relationships, the cleric argued that people who genuinely love their partners should be able to communicate their intentions rather than leave them uncertain about the future.
“When there’s love, there’s commitment,” he said.
He also criticised men who propose marriage to women but leave them waiting for years without taking further steps towards marriage.
“You will not use a ring to imprison her and say, ‘I’ve engaged her ’; you’ve engaged her for five years. What should you do with that?” he asked.
Pastor Bolaji further questioned relationships in which one partner cannot explain where things are heading when asked about their future.
“When you ask someone, ‘What are we doing?’ and they say, ‘I’m not sure,’ they don’t love you. Why? Anywhere there is love, there’s what? Commitment,” he stated.
He also challenged the popular response, “Let’s see how it goes,” arguing that such statements can leave people in relationships without a clear sense of direction.
The cleric concluded by urging women to stop accepting prolonged uncertainty in relationships, arguing that tolerating such situations can encourage partners to avoid making commitments.
