Fashion designer Veekee James has advised new mothers against putting themselves under pressure to lose their pregnancy weight while exclusively breastfeeding their babies.

In a video shared online, the designer urged pregnant women who hope to shed their pregnancy weight shortly after childbirth to be patient, suggesting they may need to wait until they are done breastfeeding before focusing on weight loss.

“If you are pregnant now and someone has told you, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll have your baby and then you can lose all the weight,’ you can still wait another 9 to 12 months before you start to dream about losing that weight,” she said.

Veekee added that mothers would still have the opportunity to lose the weight after breastfeeding, stressing that they should not rush the process.

“You go still lose all the weight. Make your breastfeeding finish. Because breastfeeding mum, she doesn’t do weight loss,” she added.
