Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticised APC National Youth Leader Dayo Israel after the politician credited the singer with playing a significant role in the outcome of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Israel had suggested that Davido contributed to the election victory by bringing key individuals into the campaign and helping with mobilisation.
However, the singer rejected the claim, insisting that he did not recruit or mobilise anyone for the campaign.
Davido said whatever support he offered was driven by his personal relationship with his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, rather than political ambition or party interests.
The singer also expressed frustration over the way his involvement in the election was being portrayed, saying he felt disappointed by the development.
“Nigerian politics is evil, and I don’t want to be a part of it till God helps us,” Davido said.
The latest exchange comes days after Davido openly campaigned for his uncle ahead of the Osun election and called on the international community to pay attention to the electoral process.
His comments have also renewed conversations about the growing involvement of Nigerian entertainers in politics and the extent to which celebrities should be associated with political parties or election strategies.
