Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has responded defiantly to reports that thousands of followers unfollowed him following his recent comments on Peter Okoye’s ongoing family dispute.
In a video shared on social media, VDM claimed that more than 13,000 people had unfollowed him because of his position on Peter’s tell-all videos concerning his twin brother, Paul Okoye, and their elder brother, Jude Okoye.
“Over 13,000 people have unfollowed me because of this Peter Okoye thing. Get out of here. I thought I would have lost about 1 million followers,” he said.
Rather than express concern over the drop, the activist dismissed the significance of the followers he allegedly lost, insisting that his influence goes beyond his social media numbers.
“What are the 13,000 people doing for me? I do more for you all. I tell you what is happening; I create awareness for you. I help most of you,” he added.
VDM also recalled previous online controversies involving celebrities, including the cases surrounding Wizkid, the 30BG movement and the late singer Mohbad, claiming that similar attempts to turn public opinion against him had only made him more influential.
He specifically referenced the controversy surrounding Mohbad in 2023, saying, “Every time you gather against me, I become more influential, more powerful.”
The social media personality further dismissed criticism from content creators who have spoken against him, arguing that many of those who become popular during online controversies eventually lose relevance.
“All these content creators talking; after these issues, they cease to exist, but VDM will be here because I bring value,” he said.
VDM’s involvement in the controversy has attracted mixed reactions online, with some supporters defending his outspoken approach while others have criticised his comments on the family dispute.
