Afrobeats star Burna Boy has sparked a fresh football debate after naming Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha as his greatest footballer of all time, refusing to join the familiar Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo argument.
During an ESPN interview, the Grammy-winning singer immediately picked Okocha as his best playmaker and greatest African player ever.
When asked to name the greatest player in football history, Burna Boy doubled down on his choice, placing Okocha alongside Brazilian icon Pelé.
“I’ll say Jay-Jay Okocha… I’m not doing that Ronaldo and Messi stuff,” he declared.
Burna Boy also named Harry Kane as his greatest striker, Lamine Yamal as the best young player and Manchester United as his favourite club. He picked Kobbie Mainoo as his favourite United player, adding that his choice was partly influenced by his love for the club.
For the sporting event he would most like to perform at, however, Burna Boy had no hesitation: the FIFA World Cup.
