A day after storming to the men’s 100m athletics gold at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme qualified for the 200m semi-finals, coming second in his heats on Wednesday.
Eseme, who ran a Games record time to be crowned the new men’s 100m CWG champion, clocked 20.73 seconds in Heat 4 of the 200m, finishing just behind India’s Animesh Kujur (20.46).
Overall, he was 14th in the heats.
“My intention was just to qualify for the next round, and that’s what I think I did. So I’m OK with it,” Eseme, 32, told Olympics.com.
“I had a really long night yesterday, so, today I was a little bit heavy and I didn’t want to push my body to the limits.”
Speaking about winning his first-ever CWG gold, the two-time Olympian added: “Last night was pretty crazy.. when I woke up today, I was like, ‘Oh, this is not a dream. This is true!”
Williams won 78.4% of her first serve points but just 24.1% from her second serve, and 20% of her returns.
