Troops Foil Terrorists Attack on Zamfara Village, Rescue 48 Kidnap Victims

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped victims after repelling terrorists who attacked Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the rescue followed a swift military response to the attack in the early hours of 26 July 2026.
The statement said troops of Sector 2 launched the operation after receiving a distress call that “a large group of terrorists, riding about 40 motorcycles, had invaded the community.”
It said the attackers rounded up several residents with the intention of taking them into the bush, while another group waited on the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles.
The troops arrived at the scene and engaged the terrorists in what the military described as “a fierce firefight,” forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victims and flee into the surrounding bush.
“The prompt intervention led to the successful rescue of all 48 abducted civilians,” the statement said.
The military, however, confirmed that one civilian was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds. It said the injured victims had been evacuated to the General Hospital, Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving treatment.
Following the rescue operation, troops carried out aggressive patrols across the area to prevent further attacks.
The Theatre Command praised the troops for their conduct during the operation, saying it “commends the gallantry and professionalism of the troops for this successful operation.”
It also reaffirmed “its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property” and called on residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations against terrorist groups in the North West.
