Nigerian actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has called out a Ghanaian television station for allegedly airing her movie, The Memory of You 1 & 2, without her permission or a licensing agreement less than 24 hours after its release.
The actress reportedly released the final episode of the movie at 5 p.m. on Friday, but by Saturday afternoon, she accused NETV of broadcasting the film without contacting her or making any payment.
In an emotional Instagram post, Ojo described the alleged act as “pure theft” and called on Ghanaian authorities, including President John Dramani Mahama, the National Film Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, to intervene.
She also urged authorities to enforce Ghana’s copyright laws, arguing that piracy threatens filmmakers, jobs, creativity and investment in the film industry.
The actress further called for the station’s licence to be suspended or revoked if found guilty of airing unauthorised content.
Her strong reaction has reignited conversations about copyright protection, content piracy and the financial losses suffered by filmmakers whose work is distributed without their consent.
