Marvel Studios has reportedly announced the third instalment of the Black Panther franchise, with the film scheduled for an exclusive theatrical release on December 15, 2028.
The announcement was made by director Ryan Coogler during the 2026 Comic-Con International in San Diego, California, where he also revealed that actor David Jonsson will take on the role of the new Black Panther.
Coogler reportedly hinted that the upcoming film will continue the story of T’Challa’s son, introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, following the death of Chadwick Boseman, who played the iconic Wakandan king.
“The last time we got to make a movie, we introduced a character who is the son of the character that the great Chadwick Boseman played, our T’Challa, in that film. And today, I want to tell you that in this next film, he grows up and comes of age,” Coogler said.
The announcement represents a major shift for the franchise, as David Jonsson is expected to portray an older version of T’Challa’s son and continue the legacy established by the late Boseman.
