Actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has opened up about why she ensured her ex husband was present at their daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding despite their past differences.
Speaking during an interview with Morayo TV, the actress said her decision was motivated by a desire to break unhealthy family cycles and give her daughter the best possible foundation for her marriage.
Reflecting on her own upbringing and personal experiences, Iyabo said she was determined not to allow unresolved issues between herself and her former partner affect their daughter.
“I made up my mind. Whatever situation had happened, because my dad and my mom also, you know, were not together. Every mistake they had made that I have made, my children will not make it. So, I had to put aside what I felt, my differences, and clear her path.”
She added that making peace with the situation was a personal sacrifice for the sake of her daughter’s future.
“And that’s why I said I have paid the price for her to succeed, for her to be happy in her marriage.”
Iyabo also stressed that her separation from Priscilla’s father had nothing to do with their daughter, insisting he deserved to be present on such an important day.
“Her father is not dead. He’s alive. So why can’t he be there? He didn’t wrong her. It’s me and him that fell out. It has nothing to do with her. I made the choice to marry him, right? So whatever it is that’s going on, it’s between me and him.”
According to the actress, children should not be made to bear the consequences of conflicts between their parents, emphasizing that she chose to prioritize her daughter’s happiness above her personal feelings.
