World Cup-bound Portugal tonight ended the Super Eagles 12-match unbeaten run after they beat them 2-1 in a final warm-up game in Leira.
The fifth best team in the world took the lead after 23 minutes through Pedro Neto.
The Super Eagles, who are ranked 21 places below in the FIFA Rankings, drew level in the 39th minute through Jerome Akor.
Portugal fired the winning goal in the 75th minute through substitute Francisco Conceicao.
The home team created the better chances, enjoyed more of the ball (58% possession), while the Super Eagles offered very little going forward and gave away too many balls around their box.
Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye pulled off several big saves to make the scoreline a lot more respectable than the 4-0 bashing they suffered four years ago.
Fulham star Alex Iwobi won his historic 100th cap for Nigeria since his debut against DR Congo in October 2015.
Genk youngster Christian Akpan made his Super Eagles debut at the right back.
In September, the Super Eagles will begin their campaign to qualify for the 2027 AFCON at home against Madagascar.
