The Nigerian content creation community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of popular TikTok creator Monique Pearls, whose real name was Monica Okafor Owuunaka.
The 30 year old content creator, who was originally from Cross River State and based in Abuja, became widely known for her emotional and relatable videos centered around motherhood, caregiving and family life.
A major part of her content featured a young girl known as Precious, a child reportedly brought from the village by her family, whose bond with Monique became one of the most loved aspects of her storytelling online.
Through her authentic and emotionally driven content, Monique Pearls built a loyal audience across social media, with many viewers praising her for reflecting everyday Nigerian family experiences in a relatable way.
Her family confirmed her passing in May 2026.
She is survived by her husband and young son, Lael.
