Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi has been screened and cleared by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the party’s 2027 presidential primary, further cementing his status as the party’s sole presidential aspirant.

Obi disclosed on Tuesday that he underwent an extensive screening exercise conducted by the party in Abuja, describing the process as thorough and professional.

According to him, the screening session lasted more than two and a half hours, during which members of the committee examined his academic qualifications, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials, and age declarations.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate also said he responded to questions regarding his vision for Nigeria and the kind of leadership required to address the country’s current challenges.

“Yesterday, May 19th, in Abuja, I attended the Presidential screening organised by our party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which took over two and a half hours,” Obi stated.

“They carefully reviewed all my documents, including my degree certificates, NYSC credentials, and age declarations.”

Obi said he was subsequently cleared by the screening committee and formally received the party’s presidential nomination form, which he had earlier purchased.

He commended the committee, headed by former Ebonyi State governor Sam Egwu, for what he described as a diligent and transparent exercise.

“I would like to commend the screening committee, led by former governor Sam Egwu, for their thorough and professional approach,” Obi said.

He also praised the leadership of the NDC for upholding democratic principles and internal party processes ahead of the 2027 election.
