Relationship coach and pastor Debola Deji Kurunmi has sparked conversations online after criticising the automatic role many pastors play in marriage counselling without proper training or qualification.
According to her, not every pastor is equipped to handle complex marital issues, especially relationships dealing with deep emotional wounds, infidelity and long-standing conflict.
She warned that pastors who are neither specially anointed nor professionally certified for marriage counselling should avoid handling sensitive marital crises, arguing that some religious counselling methods have caused more damage in troubled marriages.
Debola Deji Kurunmi also criticised situations where infidelity and repeated emotional issues are reduced to a simple apology without addressing the deeper problems that may have built up over the years.
Her comments have since triggered mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the role of pastors, therapy, patriarchy and professional counselling in modern marriages.
