Popular food critic Opeyemi Famakin has taken an unexpected turn from food reviews to fragrance wars, launching a strong campaign against alleged counterfeit perfume sellers in Lagos.
In a series of statements, Famakin called out vendors operating in major hubs like Trade Fair Complex and Alaba International Market, accusing them of flooding the market with fake high end fragrances.
Clearly frustrated, he vowed to “wage war” against those involved, promising to expose suppliers and collaborate with relevant authorities to clamp down on the trade.
According to him, beyond cheating customers, the circulation of counterfeit products has also affected his credibility, especially as someone whose recommendations influence purchasing decisions.
While some Nigerians applauded the move as a long overdue stand against fake goods, others questioned whether such a battle can truly be won in markets long associated with counterfeits.
Still, Famakin appears undeterred, and if his words are anything to go by, this is no longer just about perfumes, it is about reputation.
