Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has once again found himself at the centre of online drama following remarks made during his Instagram Live session on May 3, 2026, where he appeared to distance himself from activist and social media personality Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan.

In his now-viral broadcast, Seun stated that he neither seeks love nor respect from the public, noting that he already enjoys both from his family. He went further to suggest that VeryDarkMan should “stay on his own,” while accusing him of blocking and unblocking him on social media in what he described as a calculated attempt to create the impression of mutual disengagement especially after Seun publicly defended activist Omoyele Sowore.

As expected in Nigeria’s ever-responsive online space, it didn’t take long for a rebuttal. VeryDarkMan, apparently unwilling to let the narrative breathe till morning, fired back in a midnight response, disputing Seun’s claims. He alleged that the real source of tension stemmed from Seun’s repeated attempts to get him to align his “Ratels” movement with the Movement of the People (MOP) an offer he claims to have declined, much to Seun’s displeasure.

Not done yet, VeryDarkMan extended his response to Sowore, delivering a rather blunt critique of the politician’s presidential ambitions, dismissing any possibility of him occupying the nation’s highest office, now or, as he put it, ever.

With both camps digging in, what began as another routine Instagram Live session has, unsurprisingly, evolved into a full-blown public sparring match, one that proves, yet again, that in Nigeria’s entertainment and activist circles, silence is rarely an option.
