The Nigerian Army has broken its silence on the swirling controversy surrounding the arrest of popular blogger and social media personality, Justice Mark Chidiebere, widely known online as “Justice Crack,” offering a sharply different narrative from the one trending across digital platforms.

In a statement that reads more like a plot twist than damage control, the Army insisted that the arrest was not simply about viral complaints over soldiers’ welfare, but rather about what it described as deeper, more troubling interactions between the influencer and serving personnel.

According to the military, its attention was first drawn to the situation after videos and posts surfaced online showing some soldiers lamenting poor feeding and welfare conditions. The clips, amplified by Justice Crack’s platforms, quickly gained traction, sparking outrage and sympathy in equal measure.

But behind the scenes, the Army claims there was more going on than met the public eye.

Preliminary findings, the statement revealed, suggest that Justice Crack engaged the soldiers in a series of conversations that went beyond documenting their grievances. The Army alleged that some of these exchanges veered into dangerous territory, including discussions it described as bordering on subversion.

In the military’s telling, the influencer was not just a passive amplifier of discontent but may have actively encouraged dissatisfaction within the ranks, a development it says raises serious red flags for discipline and national security.

“It is important to state that a situation where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion has far-reaching implications,” the Army noted, signalling the gravity with which it views the matter.

The result was a coordinated response.

Justice Crack was picked up alongside the soldiers involved, although the Army was quick to clarify that the cases are now being handled separately. While the soldiers remain in military custody under internal procedures, the influencer himself has been transferred to civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Army also pointed out that its actions are partly rooted in an alleged breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy, suggesting that both the soldiers’ participation and the influencer’s involvement crossed established lines governing military conduct online.

Despite the tension surrounding the case, the military sought to project an image of restraint and legality, emphasising its commitment to due process.

In its words, all actions taken so far fall “within the ambit of the law,” with assurances that relevant agencies are now involved to ensure that justice is served.

Still, the situation continues to generate buzz online, where Justice Crack’s supporters insist he was merely giving voice to soldiers’ frustrations, while critics argue that the influencer may have blurred the line between advocacy and agitation.

For now, what began as a viral welfare exposé has evolved into a full-blown national conversation about free speech, military discipline, and the power and risks of social media influence in sensitive spaces.

And as the investigation unfolds, one thing is clear: the “Justice Crack” saga is far from over.
